Pigi is a village and the seat of the community of the same name, belonging to the Municipal Unit of Arkadi, in the Municipality of Rethymno, within the Regional Unit of Rethymno, Crete.
Pigi is located east of the city of Rethymno, on the 9th kilometre of the road to Arkadi, at an altitude of 70 metres and approximately two kilometres from the sea in a straight line. It is built in the heart of a fertile and relatively flat area. Further north lies Pigianos Kampos, a newer settlement of Pigi, situated at an altitude of 15 metres.
This well-kept village, rich in greenery, takes pride in its notable ancestors, such as the famous writer Pantelis Prevelakis and the abbot of Arkadi Monastery, Dionysios Psaroudakis. As visitors wander through the picturesque alleys of the village, they can find the house of Prevelakis, while at the eastern entrance of the village there are the busts of Abbot Psaroudakis and Sergeant Nikolaos Giapintzakis, who was executed by the Germans. The elegant village square is adorned with the war memorial dedicated to the fallen residents of Pigi and Agios Dimitrios in the major battles of the 20th century.
There are KTEL Chania-Rethymno bus routes serving the area, including several routes to Kyrianna and Loutra that pass through Pigi, both on weekdays and at weekends.
